Swim-Up Rooms That Turn Out to Be Plunge Pools

Some Cancun rooms with “swim up” in the name open onto a pool for that room alone. At Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, the plunge-pool suites put the pool up on the roof instead.

• A private pool off the terrace: Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres All Suites & Spa sells its Privileged Suite & Swim Up with a private pool about 4 feet deep on the terrace. No other room opens onto it, so it works as a plunge pool.

• One resort mixes both: At Majestic Elegance, a swim-up suite’s terrace opens onto either a private pool or the main building’s pool, depending on the suite you’re given at check-in. Neither is guaranteed, so booking a swim-up there doesn’t promise you a shared pool.

• Need two beds in Playa Mujeres? SLS Playa Mujeres has a Captivate Swim-Out Queen Room with Two Queen Beds. The king version has one super-king bed and a sofa bed instead.
• Pick the bed setup at TRS: The hotel’s own site sells the Junior Suite Swim Out at TRS Coral Hotel with a king or two double beds. Either way, it takes two guests.
• The villas take a king or two doubles: Swim-out villas at Iberostar Selection Cancun come with two double beds or one king. The pool off the terrace is shared with the neighboring villas.
