5 Best Busan Hotels with Onsen Hot Spring Baths

by Ricky Stratty

Pick the bath before you pick the hotel. Busan’s hot spring water comes in two styles: the gender-split bathhouse in Dongnae, and the swimsuit pools at Ananti and Paradise. Tattoos get you turned away at one. Another asks you to cover up. Here is where I’d book for each one.

Quick answer: Book Hotel Nongshim. The baths run on Dongnae’s own hot spring water, and suites include spa entry for two.

Natural Hot Spring or Seawater Spring

Dongnae, Gijang and Haeundae draw on different wells. Here is what each hotel says about its water.

  • Dongnae’s Old Spring Dongnae’s water carries silica and comes out as hot as 70.3°C. People have bathed here for about 1,400 years. Hotel Nongshim stands in this district, and its spa draws on wells the hotel developed itself.
  • Gijang’s Deep Well The hotel says the Water House at Ananti at Busan Cove pumps 1,000 tons of natural hot spring water a day from a 600-metre well. One press report calls it heated deep seawater, so treat the water claim as the hotel’s own. Guests of Ananti at Busan Village use the same baths.
  • Haeundae’s Beach Wells Per its listings, Benikea Hotel Haeundae draws seawater hot spring water from its own well for the sauna and the in-room baths. Cimer, the sea-facing outdoor spa at Paradise Hotel Busan, uses seawater hot spring water from a 275-metre well, according to Korea Tourism and press listings. Neither hotel’s own page was reachable, so confirm the water with them.

For the oldest spring, stay in Dongnae. For sea views with your soak, stay on the coast.

Bath Rules to Know Before You Go

Korean baths run on house rules that differ from a hotel pool. Two of them decide whether you get in.

  • Nude Baths In a gender-split Korean bath you wash with soap at the shower stations before any tub, and swimwear stays out of the wet zone. The spa at Hotel Nongshim has separate men’s and women’s baths, so couples soak apart.
  • Swimsuit Baths The indoor pool at the Ananti at Busan Cove Water House requires a swimsuit, and Cimer at Paradise Hotel Busan is a swimwear spa too. Neither asks you to bathe nude, which makes them the easier start if a gender-split bath makes you nervous.
  • Tattoos Hotel Nongshim bans anyone with tattoos from its baths. The Water House asks guests to cover large ones. Korea has no national rule, so each bath sets its own: ask before you book if yours are large.

With large tattoos, the Water House is the safer bet. Skip the Dongnae bathhouse.

Is Bath Entry Included in the Room Rate

It depends on the hotel and the room. Settle this before you compare prices.

  • Ananti Covers Every Guest Guests of both Ananti hotels enter the Water House with no limit on visits, from the afternoon they check in to the afternoon they check out. Check the hotel’s page for the exact hours that apply to your room.
  • Nongshim Splits by Room At Hotel Nongshim, the suites, the Luxury Double and the Hi Deluxe include bath entry for two guests, and the Deluxe Twin gets 50% off. The baths are open every day of the year.
  • Haeundae Hotels Differ Per its listings, hot spring and sauna entry comes with every room at Benikea Hotel Haeundae. At Paradise Hotel Busan, guests get one Cimer and Ocean Pool entry per night, included in some rates and otherwise charged per adult. Read the rate plan before you book.

For unlimited soaking, book at Ananti. For one good bath, Nongshim’s suites cover two people.

Dongnae, Haeundae or Gijang

The three areas give you three different trips. Choose on what else you want from Busan.

  • Dongnae for the Bath Itself Oncheonjang Station is on Line 1 only. Pick this area for the soaking, not the nightlife.
  • Haeundae for Beach and Metro Paradise Hotel Busan sits right on Haeundae Beach, and Benikea Hotel Haeundae is close to it. Haeundae Station is on Line 2. You get restaurants and sand outside the door, with the bath a lift ride away.
  • Gijang for a Resort Stay The Ananti hotels sit on the coast in Gijang, a taxi ride of about 35 minutes from Busan Station. Choose Gijang for a resort weekend, not for sightseeing across the city.

Stay in Dongnae for the bath itself, in Haeundae for the beach, and in Gijang for a resort weekend.

Timing Your Soak by Season and Day

Closing days change what a visit feels like. Check them before you fix your dates.

  • Third Tuesdays at Ananti The Water House closes on the third Tuesday of every month. Plan your Gijang stay so a closed Tuesday doesn’t swallow your only bath day.
  • Unofficial Closing Days Listings say Benikea closes its sauna on the last Tuesday of the month and Paradise closes Cimer on the fourth Wednesday. Neither is on an official page, so confirm with the hotel.
  • Nongshim Never Closes Hotel Nongshim keeps its baths open with no weekly or monthly closing day. That makes Dongnae the safe pick when your dates are fixed.

If your dates are fixed, book Dongnae. If they are flexible, avoid a third Tuesday at Gijang.

Getting to Gijang Without Surprises

Gijang looks close to Haeundae on a map and isn’t close to Busan Station. Check the transfer before you book.

  • Busan Station to the Cove Taxis take about 35 minutes. Ananti also runs a limousine from Exit 9 of Busan Station for guests, and you must reserve it.
  • Gimhae Airport to the Cove Expect 30 to 50 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic. Ask your hotel about transfers before you land.

Reserve the Ananti limousine before you arrive, or budget for a taxi on the last stretch.

FAQs

1. Is the hot spring water at Busan hotels real?

At Hotel Nongshim, yes: the hotel’s own pages say its spa draws natural hot spring water from wells it developed, in Dongnae, where the spring reaches 70.3°C. The hotel says the Water House at Ananti at Busan Cove uses a 600-metre well, though one press report calls it heated seawater. Listings for Benikea and Paradise describe seawater hot spring water, and neither hotel’s own page was reachable.

2. Do you have to be naked in a Busan hot spring bath?

In a gender-split Korean bath, yes. Swimwear stays out of the wet zone, and you wash with soap before you enter any tub. The Ananti indoor pool and Cimer are swimsuit spas, so you wear swimwear there. Bring a swimsuit if you want both kinds of bath on one trip.

3. Are tattoos allowed in Busan hot spring baths?

It depends on the bath, because Korea has no national rule. The spa at Hotel Nongshim bans tattoos outright, and the Water House asks guests to cover large ones. Ask the hotel before you book if yours are big. A refused entry after you’ve paid for a stay is a costly surprise.

4. Is hot spring entry free for hotel guests?

Both Ananti hotels let guests into the Water House with no limit on visits. At Hotel Nongshim, suites, the Luxury Double and the Hi Deluxe include entry for two and the Deluxe Twin gets half off. Listings say Benikea Hotel Haeundae includes the sauna in every room rate. Cimer at Paradise Hotel Busan is included only in some rate plans.

5. Which Metro line goes to Oncheonjang?

Line 1 serves Oncheonjang, and no other line stops there. Haeundae sits on Line 2, so the two areas need a transfer between them. Pick Line 1 for Dongnae and Line 2 for Haeundae. Hotel Nongshim gives its own walking directions from the station, so check them before you arrive.

6. How far is Ananti from Busan Station and the airport?

A taxi from Busan Station to Ananti at Busan Cove takes about 35 minutes. From Gimhae Airport, expect 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. Ananti also runs a limousine for guests from Exit 9 of Busan Station, and you must reserve it. Ask your hotel about transfers before you land.

7. Can children use the hot spring baths?

Limits differ by bath. The Water House lets children aged 13 and under in only with a guardian. For the Dongnae spa at Hotel Nongshim, confirm the age rule with the hotel before you book, because the hotel’s page doesn’t spell it out for every bath. Plan around this if you travel with young children.

8. Can non-guests use the Heosimcheong spa?

Day entry is sold, and hotel guests in some rooms enter free or at half price. The tattoo ban applies to day visitors too. Check the current day rate and hours with the spa before you go, because both are set by the hotel. Booking a suite is the simplest way to cover entry for two.
