Burj View, Landmark View or City View: Which Room Faces the Tower

Hotels here sell the view by room category, so the name on the booking decides what you see. Read it before you look at the price.

• What does Landmark View mean? At The Heritage Hotel, Autograph Collection, City View and Pool View rooms make no promise about the tower. Only the categories with Landmark in the name are sold facing it.
• Sea side or Burj side: Rooms at Shangri-La Dubai face either the Burj Khalifa or the Arabian Sea. Book a room with Burj Khalifa in its name, not a Sea View room.
• Coastline View: Sofitel Dubai Downtown sells Coastline View rooms alongside its Burj Khalifa View rooms. Only the rooms named for the tower face it.
• Lake and fountain names: Palace Downtown says many of its rooms see the Burj Khalifa, not all of them, and its Lake View rooms make no promise of the tower. Lake or fountain in a room name is not the same as Burj.

Close-Up or Full Height: Downtown, Sheikh Zayed Road or Business Bay

How far you sleep from the tower changes what fills your window.

• At the foot of the tower: Downtown Dubai’s hotels ring Burj Lake and Dubai Mall, a few minutes’ walk from the tower. From a balcony there, you look up at it over the water.
• Across Sheikh Zayed Road: Hotels on the Financial Centre side of the highway, such as Shangri-La Dubai, look back across Downtown at the tower. You trade the walk for a straight-on view of the skyline with the tower in it.
• High up in Business Bay: SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences puts its rooms on floors 58 to 67 of a 75-storey tower beside the Dubai Canal, more than two kilometres from the Burj Khalifa. Book it for height and the skyline, not the fountain.

Watching the Dubai Fountain From Your Room

The fountain plays on Burj Lake, right at the foot of the tower. Its evening shows run every half hour.

• Which rooms see the show? Only rooms facing Burj Lake see the fountain, so look for Fountain in the room name as well as Burj. At Shangri-La Dubai, Taj Dubai and SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences, the view rooms are sold for the Burj, not the fountain.
• Hearing it: The music carries to balconies near the lake and fades once the balcony door is shut. Close the door before the late shows if you sleep early.
• When the fountain stops: Shows pause during official mourning periods and for maintenance works. Check that the fountain is running before you pay extra for a fountain room.

Getting to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall From Your Hotel

The entrance to At the Top, the tower’s observation decks, is on the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall. In the heat, an indoor route to the mall matters more than the distance on a map.

• Indoor links: Address Downtown connects straight into Dubai Mall, and Address Dubai Mall, the tower once called Address Fountain Views, links in from its Level 1 through Chinatown. Kempinski The Boulevard Dubai has a covered skybridge to the mall and the metro.
• Metro next door: Sofitel Dubai Downtown sits about 100 metres from Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. An air-conditioned skywalk takes you on into the mall.
• One stop away: From Shangri-La Dubai, Financial Centre station is a 5 to 7-minute walk. Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is the next stop on the Red Line.
• Longer walkway: An air-conditioned walkway links Address Sky View to Dubai Mall. Allow around 10 minutes on foot.

When to Book a Burj Khalifa View Room in Dubai

Dubai’s hotels fill in the cooler months, from December through February.

• New Year’s Eve: At one Downtown hotel, every room with a Burj Khalifa view sold out about a month before the fireworks, and most guests booked six to eight weeks ahead. Hotels around the tower run close to full that night.
• Winter peak: Occupancy runs high from December into February, when the weather is at its coolest. Book view rooms for those months well ahead.
• Summer rates: Rates fall hard in the hot months. At The Heritage Hotel, Autograph Collection, a July weeknight costs less than half a January weekend night.

One hotel sits inside the tower itself, and it’s the only one that can’t show you the tower.

• What you see from inside: Its rooms look out over Downtown and the fountain. The tower itself stays out of every window.
• For the tower in the frame: Sleep in one of the hotels facing it across Burj Lake or Sheikh Zayed Road. Then visit the tower for At the Top, on floors 124 and 125, or the higher deck on floor 148.
