    Relaxing tourist area

Wanaka is a less touristy, more chilled version of Queenstown. There’s an influx in winter of snow bunnies, with two mountains nearby. Federal Diner is the best spot for coffee and a visit to Cardrona Pub can’t be missed. There are epic mountain biking tracks just outside the town, as well as heaps of walks – the famous Roy’s Peak being one of them. Worth a drive round to Mt Aspiring National Park as well.

    Fantastic attraction

Breathtakingly beautiful, Lake Wanaka has crystal clear waters with snowcapped mountain views.
We were here during the summer period and the water was just about bearable to swim in as it was still quite fresh!
There is a “beach” area with lots of places to sit and relax at the town end of the lake with a big green space behind that.
There is a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes in town all within walking distance to the lakeshore.
You will also find many walking trails from and around the lake.

    Fantastic attraction

One of the most beautiful and breathtaking places I’ve been to in my life! The beauty of this place is otherworldly and unlike any other place I’ve seen.
The water is crystal clear, the mountains look as if they are painted with their textures and the beaches glisten with tiny smooth stones.
    A must-see place to visit!

    Fantastic attraction

Lake Wanaka is beautiful in both winter and summer. The township has everything one needs. Winter sees one skiing at Treble Cone – not for beginners. Summer sees people out on the lake with their yachts and some fishing. At Easter time the famous “Wings over Wanaka” is held. Beautiful autumn photos are taken of the view over the lake with the trees changing colour.

    Fantastic attraction

Lake Wanaka is just a short trip from Queenstown and definitely worth checking out. We hiked Roy’s Peak, which was listed as an easy hike…but it was tough! It took about 7 hours round trip, and although it was hard work, the views of the lake are spectacular. You should also check out the Wanaka Tree to get some cool photos.

    Fantastic attraction

Lake Wanaka is a beautiful lake, with a delightful town on its shores. Years ago we explored Wanaka and spent a blissful holiday there- our first holiday in many years. We took a hovercraft over the lake, and kayaked across her waters. And being in Autumn, the trees were as golden and pretty as all the pictures. And we spent my son’s first birthday at Puzzlingworld. The Hovercraft has gone, I believe, but every time I return to Wanaka it offers more adventures and happy memories.

    Fantastic attraction

If you drive from Haast to Wanaka, you will pass Lake Wanaka and the view will take your breath away. It is so beatiful, with all the mountains sorounding it. Definitely go for a hike to have a overview on the mountain and take a swim afterwards in the lake.

    Fantastic attraction

    Wanaka is stunning!
Year round there is much to do. Very quite and laid back to its sister lake of Queenstown.
Cardrona is the best field for snowboarding the the winter months starting in June so long as they have a good dump of snow. Treble cone is where you want to go for advance skiing!
Cardrona valley is just out of wanaka it used to be a part of wanaka but the area is growing and seems to have its own town sign now!!
