Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Auckland, New Zealand
Auckland Art Gallery is a must-see if you are interested in art and culture. The building itself is absolutely stunning, with a lovely rooftop cafe where you can enjoy a Flat White while taking in the sights of the city centre. It is in the heart of Auckland’s CBD, within walking distance from main attractions such as Aotea Square, the Civic Centre, and the Auckland Library. There is a wide range of art and with new and unique exhibitions rotated regularly. And be sure to also pop into the fantastic gift shop on your way out!
The architecture of the Auckland Art Gallery alone is worth the visit. Right in the center of the city and at the edge of Albert Park, the gallery is a perfect stop for a cafe and to learn about the Maori history, with all its portraits. I recommend keeping an eye out for special exhibits, when I went there they had a lego exhibition in which people could just play and interact.
A wonderful gallery and worth checking out even if you are not an arty person. There is a huge collection of Maori portraits that I really thought were amazing. I had heard that the staff there were rude but we had no issues and found everyone to be polite/helpful.
