Auckland Attractions

Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand, the city where most visitors first arrive on their journey. Covering an isthmus, and flanking two harbours, there are beaches all around the city. Auckland is a city of volcanos, but fortunately all of them are dormant.

Top Attractions

The icon that has represented Auckland for many years is the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Opened in 1959 as a 4-lane bridge, two ‘Nippon Clip-ons’ were added 10 years later to double the capacity of the bridge. Later years have opened the bridge to Bridge Climbs and AJ Hackett, the father of modern bungy-jumping also has a Bungy Jump off the bridge. The modern icon of the city is the Sky Tower, which has changed the cityscape dramatically since it was built in the 1990s.

Kids & Family

Kids will have fun at Rainbows End with rides and excitement. Kidz Kingdom is the section of the theme park for the younger ones. Also, take them to the sunken tunnels of Kelly Tarltons Sea Life Aquarium on the waterfront to enjoy the marine wildlife of the area. Sharks and penguins, sea-horses and sting rays all within touching distance.

Shopping & Nightlife

For shopping look to Karangahape Road (K Road), just off the main Queen Street or Ponsonby Road. Here you’ll find characterful shops out of the bustle of the harbour side. K Road is the centre of night time life in the city. Parnell Road is a quaint colonial styled Village near the Auckland War Memorial Museum and the surrounding Auckland Domain.

Day Tours

The most popular day tour is to Hobbiton, closely followed by Waitomo Caves and the geothermal wonderworld of Rotorua. Take a trip to the historic north and visit the birthplace of New Zealand at the Bay of Islands or go to the top at Cape Reinga.
