28 Popular Attractions in Geelong

Geelong is south west of Melbourne on the Port Phillip Harbour, approximately 1 hour drive away.

Top Attractions

The top Geelong Attraction is the Great Ocean Road. Visitors come from near and far to see this unique and beautiful shore. This 243 km stretch of coastline is highlighted by the 12 Apostles (rock stacks formed by the sea) and the Loch Ard Gorge. This latter is where the ship, the Loch Ard, finished her final voyage on the rocks.

Kids & Family
Kids for many generations have loved The Carousel, built in 1892. Recently restored, each horse took about 300 hours of loving care and the removal of about 40 layers of paint to return the Merry-Go-Round to its original condition. Teach your kids about the Wool industry at the National Wool Museum. Find out how the sheep helped form the backbone of Australian farming of yesteryear.

Geelong Waterfront

Geelong has an incredible waterfront, with innovative sculptures and artwork. Old channel buoys have pride of place in one section. Cargo boxes also have been used to decorate an area. These are made of brass and glass and each contains a historical icon, representing an import to the port of Geelong. There are over 100 wooden bollards, spanning the length of the walk, each depicting a whimsical character. ‘North’ is a 7-part sculpture that look like shark fins or sails, ranging up to 3.5m high. There is a water feature containing barcodes made of stainless steel, and bronze ‘Poppykettle’ statues. A delightful walk with lots of photo opportunities!
