0 Best Fraser Island Attractions Every Tourist Must See

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island, 123 km long and 22 km wide. It has an area of 1,840 square km. The Island has over 100 freshwater lakes, and ancient rainforests grow in the sand. The indigenous name for Fraser Island is K’gari meaning Paradise. Fraser Island is the home of a pure strain of the Australian Dingo, an animal that has interbred with dogs elsewhere. A Dingo does not bark, but at night-time you can often hear them howl.

Top Attractions

Fraser Island is a destination in itself, but there are places on the Island that visitors want to see. The number one Fraser Island Attraction would have to be Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Many people give themselves the goal of traveling the total length of this glorious beach. The Maheno Wreck is the most well-known of the 23 recorded shipwrecks on the Island.

Day Tours

Explore K’gari by 4WD to see some beautiful sandscapes and water forms, such as Champagne Pools and Lake McKenzie. Permits are needed for vehicles on Fraser Island, and there is a vehicle ferry from Hervey Bay. Try fishing for your dinner or look out for a Humpback whale – you may be lucky enough to see a baby whale with its mother.
