Moorea vs Tahiti Island

If you only have time to stay on one of these islands, we can break down the main differences. Both are incredible holiday spots. But out of the two, Tahiti is the more affordable. This island is most known for its clear blue waters and sandy beaches. Outdoor lovers come to Tahiti to enjoy the famous surf breaks and hiking trails. Whereas, Moore is more renowned among wellness enthusiasts and honeymooners. You can enjoy spa days and sunset dinners on the beach. Moorea also has more overwater bungalows to choose from.

How do you get to Moorea from Tahiti

To reach Tahiti, it’s fairly easy since there’s the Tahiti-Faa’a International Airport. There are generally direct flights from New Zealand, Japan, Australia, and Chile. But to get to Moorea, you have to catch another plane or travel by ferry. There are four daily flights, and it takes 15 minutes to arrive in Moorea. You can also choose from two ferry companies if you would rather sail across the sea. For ferry schedules, please visit Aremiti or Terevau.

Best Time to Visit

Year-round, Moorea and Tahiti boast warm temperatures and sunny days. Therefore, you can come and visit the islands at any time. Most travelers choose to visit Tahiti and Moorea between May and October. That said, the cheapest time to arrive is during the low season.  Although you pay less from November to April, prepare for occasional rain and humidity. In August, watersport fans worldwide travel to Tahiti for the Outerknown Tahiti Pro, a major surfing event.
