16. Fairmont Bab Al Bahr

The blue glass exterior makes the Fairmont easily recognizable among the cluster of creekside hotels where it resides. Standout style continues on the interior of the hotel with Middle Eastern touches in the lobby and rich exuberance with statement furniture, textures, and detailing in the rooms. In total there are 369 rooms all of which are beautifully designed, have sitting areas, spacious plush bathrooms, and some have exceptional views of the creek and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. We’d recommend springing for the Fairmont Gold experience which entitles guests to private check-in, access to a library complete with reading room, complimentary snacks, and pre-dinner drinks, not to mention the specialist butler service – well worth it in our opinion. Water lovers will feel right at home here thanks to the Olympic-sized swimming pool, and the stretch of private beach. Seasonally inspired menus and international cuisines pave the way for gastronomic experiences with choice being the key: find hearty meals at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill, or lighter bites at Café Sushi. If it’s something for the children you’re looking for then the Little Flamingos Kids Club offers activities for toddlers to teens including a LEGO wall, mini disco, movie time, and gaming stations, leaving parents with time to relax. Exploring the local area is made easy with the services of a free mini-van that does the rounds of various city attractions, as well as a traditional souk just up the road.

This luxury picking set overlooking the Grand Canal is inspired by renaissance architecture and simply exudes Middle Eastern opulence. Cossetted within ten Venetian-inspired buildings, the resort features all the facilities you could wish for including one of the city’s largest outdoor pools in the center of the resort. Five-star accommodation stretches beyond the traditional hotel room here, and instead, you’ll find a collection of suites, residences, and villas to fulfill all your needs. Each one opens out onto lush gardens with direct views of either the pool, gardens, or the Grand Canal, and contains a range of mod-cons like satellite TVs, Nespresso machines, and minibars. The ESPA here is more than just getting a treatment, steeped in traditions of Bedouin culture with distinct local touches, going to the spa here is a restoring journey. The peaceful beachfront location features 16 treatment rooms, a plunge pool, a waterfall, and lush greenery to aid relaxation. We recommend the Oasis ritual designed to uplift the spirit and soothe tired muscles. Dining here is pretty special too with swish outdoor banquettes featuring twilight views of the Grand Mosque, premium steaks and seafood eaten with custom-made knives, and popular Friday brunch menus best enjoyed on the garden-facing patio.
