Bangkok is an exciting capital city, where Thai tradition meets modernity. One of the most popular areas to stay is along the Chao Phraya River. It runs through the centre of the city with many restaurants, malls, and temples on its banks. Some of the most luxurious hotels are also located by the river. But before we unveil the top hotels, here are some insights to help you choose the best suites.

Best Hotels for Families

  • The Salil Hotel Riverside Bangkok – The Family Room consists of a master bedroom and a lounge with ‘cubby’ style bunk beds. Suitable for two adults and two children, your family will have a lovely stay. The swimming pool onsite also has a kid’s area.
  • Montien Riverside Hotel Bangkok – The Family Suite with river view is luxurious and spacious. There are two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds. It’s the perfect fit for a family of four. Terminal 21 Rama 3 is also just a short walk from the hotel.

Best Hotels for Couples

  • The Peninsula Bangkok – The Grand Deluxe Suite has views of the rivers and Bangkok skyline, the perfect setting for a romantic evening. In the morning, take a stroll around the hotel’s lush gardens. In case you’re inviting additional guests, staff will ask them to leave their ID at the reception.
  • Four Seasons Hotel – The rooms here are all very classy. Most have luxurious bathtubs so you can easily relax. If you want to splurge, we highly recommend the Riverside Terrace. This is a huge suite overlooking the river.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit the Chao Phraya River is between November and March when the tropical climate is less intense. During this time, temperatures are not as humid and more bearable. There are many festivals between November and March including the King’s birthday on December 5th. New Year and Chinese New Year are also celebrated with fireworks displays along the river. Bangkok has the largest Chinatown in the world so staying for Chinese New Year is incredible too. With that in mind, these hotels will have the best views of the river:

  • Mandarin Oriental Bangkok – The deluxe balcony king room, the Mandarin king room and the royal king suite are all good options. The royal suite, however, has the best views of the Chao Phraya River. The hotel’s spa and sports facilities are unmatched.
  • Millennium Hilton Bangkok – The executive suite has a panoramic view. Take in the entire city, it’s stunning!

Which Side of Chao Phraya River is Better?

Stay on the East side of the Chao Phraya River where most of the best shops and attractions are located. Major attractions include the Grand Palace, the Reclining Buddha, and Asiatique. Most major hotels are also on the east side so it’s easier to find accommodation here. By contrast, the west side is undeveloped in terms of tourist infrastructure. Hotels on the east side generally offer free boat rides across the river too.
