The top attraction in Chatham is the Historic Dockyard Chatham where there are eighty acres containing many naval and maritime historical exhibits. The famous HMS Victory was built in the yard, remembered for being the ship that Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed in the Battle of Trafalgar. At one time, thousands of men worked at this dockyard. Today the museum demonstrates 400 years of Naval history, shows you things like how to work rope, and allows access to HMS Cavalier, HMS Gannet, and the Ocelot.
Kids & Family
For a day out all the family will enjoy, go to Napoleonic Fort Amherst. After 300 years of history, there are endless tunnels, buildings and fortifications to explore. Ghost tours are the rage here, with the Fort being one of Kent’s most haunted locations. Don’t get lost in the underground passageways without a torch because you may not be alone. The kids will also enjoy Flip Out, the local trampoline park.
