The Night Safari is the world’s first zoo made for nocturnal animals. With over 1 million visitors each year, this unique theme park is home to over 2,500 animals, offering shows, a unique safari tram ride, as well as an opportuntiy for the keen explorers to walk various themed trails.

Highlights

  • Thumbuakar Performance – Start your night with an exciting fire display by Thumbuakar warriors. They’ll showcase their fire eating skills, perform a cultural dance and even share some thrills with the crowd. The show starts at 6:45pm, but if you miss this one, there will be repeats at 8pm & 9pm. 10pm performances are only available on Friday, Saturdays and public holidays.

  • Creatures of the Night Show – This night show features several noturnal animals and their talents. Its a fun, entertaining and interactive 20 minute show that will leave a lasting impression on the importance of Singapore’s natural environment. Unfortunately there’s no cover at the Amphitheatre, so have a poncho ready.
  • Walking Trails – There are 4 walking trails including Fishing Cat trail, Leaopard trail, East Lodge trail, and Wallaby trail. These areas are not thoroughly covered by the tram and can only be reached by walking. They’re great opportunities to take photos as long as you have the right equipement.
  • Tram Safari Experience – This is a 40 minute relaxing safari ride around the park where you will journey through 7 geographical zones including Himalayan Foothills, Indian Subcontinent, Equatorial Africa, Indo-Malayan Region, Asian Riverine Forest, Nepalese River Valley and Burmese Hillside. Commentray from an expert guide will give you more insight about the various animals in each zone.

Tips

  • Dinner – For a complete Night Safari experience, have dinner at one of the restaurants outside the zoo before entering the theme park. There’s a wide range of food including Indian, Bongo Burgers, snacks, desserts and even alcoholic beverages.
  • Taking Photos of animals – Taking photos at night is going to be tough if you don’t have the right equipment, especially when flash is not allowed. There are a few lightly dimmed exhibits on the walking trails where you could take some decent photos, but in general, most areas are very dark and you’ll be lucky if animals pose right under spot lights. On the tram ride, it will be very difficult since the tram is constantly moving. Its best to sit back and relax on this 40 minute journey.
  • Ponchos & Umbrellas – Singapore’s weather can be unpredicatable and there might be spontaneous periods of rain.

Transport

  • MRT – This will take a bit longer compared to the direct bus, but if its more suitable for you, here are the nearest stops.

    It was good

I’ve only taken the Tram Safari Experience and watched the Thumbuakar Performance. I wasn’t a fan of the Tram Safari Experience as I didn’t see much since it was dark. It’s not a guarantee (but by luck) that you’ll see a number of nocturnal animals. The Thumbuakar Performance was the highlight of my trip, it’s a Circus performance. I heard about the Creatures of the Night Show and it sounds promising.

    Excellent

This is one of the best zoo experience I had worldwide. It is one of the few zoo that is open at night. The night time experience feels a lot more intimate and natural. The animal seems a bit more relaxed at night. Overall a great experience.

    Fantastic attraction

Night safari is one of the main attraction of Singapore. It is located next to the Singapore zoo. Peacocks from the zoo used to come there in search of food. The shows start by evening and I think they conduct only two shows every day. It was really crowded, so make sure you be on time and stand in a queue quickly. The night animal show, tram ride, and fire eating show was really awesome. A must visit place with kids.

    Fantastic attraction

I visited the Night Safari last October 2010 and tried their tram Safari Experience. It was Halloween season which made the experience even more fun since the staff are in costumes. There are also people dressed as ghouls and monsters who suddenly appear and scare people on the tram while roaming around the zoo.

    Fantastic attraction

The Night Safari in Singapore is nothing like I have seen before. It is an amazing experience. It was literally spine chilling. I was nervous to see Lions, Tigers, Bears, Hyenas, etc., from the tram, but it was a truly one of its kind experience. I made a promise to myself that I would definitely visit Singapore Night Safari whenever I visit Singapore. I hope my next Singapore trip is very close by…

    Fantastic attraction

One of the few zoos in the world open specifically at night! The tram rides are interesting, and if you are lucky you will get a live speaker on mic which adds a natural feel to the narrative of the tram ride’s script. At the entrance are fire dancers and cool tribal music. The walking trails are abit of an adventure in the gloom, the lights imitate moonlight, so one gets to see all kinds of nocturnal animals going about with their natural behaviour. Other than the nocturnal animals, we all get to see the day-time and all-time favourites as well like the African lions and the Indian tigers. Highly recommended!

    Excellent

This is a great place to bring the family, and a good way to spend an evening in Singapore. It is not as convenient to get here, though, as there is no MRT station right next to it (as with the case for some other attractions), but it is one bus ride away from a few MRT stations.

    Fantastic attraction

When I heard at the Changi Airport that Singapore now has a zoo fully dedicated to nocturnal animals, I was simply overexcited and I ended up here on the day I landed in Singapore. It was a bit tiring journey as I was a bit jet-lagged but I will never forget this experience. The Creatures of the Night Show was an amazing experience as I have never seen anything like that before. Many people feel that it is a bit overpriced as you only travel in a large car and need to strain your eyes to have a good look at the animals but I liked the atmosphere, the concept and, of course, the tram ride. I would love to come back here again on my next trip.

One of the great attraction of Singapore while you can see the night life of animals in the forest. Walking along the jungle trek while observing the animals life are both exciting and fabulous.

    Fantastic attraction

Night Safari is a unique tourist attraction in Singapore and we had read a lot about it before our visit to Singapore. It was the first time that we got to see different animals at night and there were only natural barriers between us and the animals. The entire area was designed in such a way that made it to seem that the animals were in their natural habitat, rather than cages. We took the 40 minute tram ride, which covered different areas, and there was commentary by the guide during this ride. We also witnessed the Creatures of the Night show, which will be most enjoyed by kids. Though the tickets for the Night Safari were expensive, it was well worth the price, for all that it offered. This is a must-see tourist attraction in Singapore.

    Fantastic attraction

Opening a zoo in the middle of the night is truly a revolutionary idea. Seeing animals go on with life in the dark is truly revealing, and at times, thrilling. There are trams in the park which you can ride to explore the park without sweating (it’s quite humid inside the complex). Make sure though to plan your tour well as the shows are definitely the meat of this experience. The shows are unique and are presented in a way that is easy to understand for both children and adults. The tricks that the animals display are very entertaining which shows the effort of the staff to endear us with these animals and take an active role in the protection of these animals in the wild. I suggest having an early dinner elsewhere before visiting this park as you will need to maximize the time that you’ll be spending inside the park.
